Outdoor Oasis

OUTDOOR OASIS PORCH PROJECT

A couple in Mclean, VA desired a screened porch addition to their existing Arts & Crafts style home but were concerned it would look like an afterthought. Studio 360 was tasked to create a lovely outdoor oasis with a few priorities.

  1. It had to “look as if it had always been there”

  2. Continue to allow natural light into the adjacent kitchen and living spaces and maintain the view and connection to the rear yard

  3. Incorporate a fireplace

  4. Provide a thoughtful “nook” for the owners to hang a beloved hammock

  5. Extend the roof at one end of the house to provide a covered carport

The end result was a successful marriage with the existing scale, rooflines, overhangs, and materials of the existing home. The terrace was expanded and incorporated a built-in grill. Care was taken not to disturb any sightlines to the main road as this property was located in a Historic Overlay District and had strict parameters on modifications that would impact the street view.  The owners are thrilled with their new outdoor oasis and expanded living area that was completed on schedule and on budget.
